The Power of Life Coaching
You might be asking "what on earth is life coaching?" Or, "yeah nah, it's not for me"
I hear ya. Grab a cuppa, and let me tell you a little story about my personal experience with life coaching...
8 years ago, I was nearing the end of my holidays in Europe. I messaged a friend, "I don't want to return home and go back to work. I want to create, dance, travel, LIVE". She said, "why don't you?"
Her question made me realise that I needed some serious changes in my life. I can't go on, trying different jobs and hobbies hoping I'll be happier and appreciated. I've always been resilient and challenging the status quo - successful career changes, surviving my brother's suicide, first job overseas when I didn't speak the language...
But this time felt different. I needed help. Now.
I started researching - life coaching was an emerging field. I started working with my first coach and it was life changing - learning how I loved diving deep about myself and exploring how I could change. I was challenged with some powerful questions. Together with Biodanza, I began to realise that I needed to feel into what I wanted in life, in my romantic relationship, in work.
It was through these powerful questions and the safe space, that I realise what I wanted did not align with my life. I desired freedom, not pay check to pay check. Growing with my man, not just my own personal growth. Exploring my spirituality, not meditating in the closet. Dancing (lots of dancing). I desired travel for pleasure, not 16 hour work days in overseas hotel room/client meetings.
Gradually, I made some significant life changing decisions - quitting my almost-dream-job, ending my 11 year relationship, shifting my mindset around wealth and letting go of home ownership. I took a 5 month sabbatical in Argentina to study tango, and later, left my hometown to create a life in a new city.
Since my first coach, I've worked with different coaches focused on money mindset, menstrual cycle, sexuality and intimacy, working in the ethereal, dance. I continued my professional development in corporate partnerships, management, communications.
All this started with "Why don't you?" and my commitment to taking responsibility for my own life and its direction.
This is one impact of life coaching. Powerful impact. And it's helped me hone my responsibility for the direction of my life and unshackle myself from the status quo and expectations.
